2. Permits, pilgrim rules, and paperwork — what you must know

Certain journeys in Kashmir require paperwork and pre-registration. The Amarnath Yatra, for example, runs on a defined window and needs registration; the 2025 Yatra opened in early July with a registration fee of INR 220 and a daily pilgrim limit to manage crowds (Times Now, July 2025). For pilgrims there are health certificate requirements and strict no-fly rules over Yatra routes during the season. Outside the Yatra, some protected areas and high-altitude trekking routes may need permits or local permission—ask local tourism offices or a trusted operator before you set out.
