Most international visitors fly into Delhi or Mumbai and connect to Srinagar International Airport. Srinagar is the fastest entry for central Kashmir attractions. Jammu Tawi is another gateway with better rail links and quieter roads; many travelers choose Jammu plus a scenic road transfer into the Valley. Driving times matter: Srinagar is about 90–100 km from some pilgrimage/valley access points, and mountain roads can add hours depending on conditions. If you prefer rail, take a train to Jammu and then a pre-booked taxi or bus. Overnight trains are common, and many travelers combine rail and road to limit time on mountain stretches. For safety, book flights arriving in daylight and use hotel-arranged transfers rather than solo night driving. Keep your driver’s contact and share your route with a trusted contact. If you travel during the Amarnath season, expect controlled traffic, designated parking, and checkpoint delays—plan extra time for those formalities (Times Now).
