11 Travel Photography Tips to Capture Better Memories
2. Learn Composition Basics Before You Snap

Composition turns a nice scene into a strong photo with only small moves. Use your camera’s grid and place the main subject on the intersecting lines rather than dead center, and look for leading lines such as paths, fences, or railings to guide the eye. Negative space gives breathing room and helps subjects stand out, especially in busy markets or crowded streets. Change perspective by crouching low or stepping up to capture rooftops and alleyways from above; different angles quickly make familiar places feel fresh. If something in the frame distracts you, move left or right rather than trying to crop later. Practicing three quick composition swaps at each stop — eye level, low, and a tight crop — will train you to see better scenes faster and build a more varied photo set for every location.
