12 Inflammatory Bowel Disease Diet Foods That Ease Symptoms
4. Bananas (Ripe)

Ripe bananas are a classic “gentle” fruit for sensitive digestion. They’re relatively low in insoluble fiber and provide potassium, which helps correct electrolyte losses during episodes of diarrhea. Use ripe bananas mashed into curd or blended into a plain smoothie with lactose-free milk if needed; avoid adding fibrous seeds or heavy spices. In India, mashed ripe banana mixed with a little dahi is a familiar comfort food that’s also easy to swallow and digest. Green, unripe bananas contain more resistant starch and may be harder to tolerate, so choose fully ripe fruit during flares. As with any fruit, portion matters: one small banana can be a good test serving. If constipation is a concern, check with your clinician about portion timing and pairing with liquids.
